Fatih Municipality Library
Fatih Municipality Library is placed as one of the biggest libraries in İstanbul. Even though it is located on the ground floor of a municipality building, the essential part of the project was to cut the connection between the library and the municipality building. Therefore, the entrances were relocated in the direction of the new planning. One of the most important issues of libraries is to have spaces where silence and isolation take control. For this reason, the transition through the library became gradual with 24/7 open public spaces, semi-isolated places and individual study areas.
In the center of the inner courtyard, which is closed with a space cage system, an amphitheater with suitable study areas has been added to enrich the space and increase the guest experience. Considering the soundscape, a second surface made of acoustic panels was created in the inner courtyard. Spatial flow was created for the library guests by covering the new library courtyard and the existing building facades with those panels.
The library entrance was renewed with indoor plants and natural wooden laths. A rhythm was achieved with the laths in the gallery space and at the library entrance. This rhythm was continued with acoustic panels in the inner courtyard of the library. Thus, a dynamic, spacious workspace that increases motivation with indoor plants and color tones inspired by nature was designed.
In addition, we portray Fatih, which is inside the walls and forms the essence of Istanbul, at our library entrance with the words of our poets who also describe Istanbul. In the interior design, we make our eyes at history with the works of art we designed which were inspired by the birds of Istanbul and also with the valuable sentences compiled from our peers.
