Uzunkemer Konsept

The UZUNKEMER Project is located in the Göktürk neighborhood of Istanbul’s Eyüpsultan district, positioned parallel to Istanbul Street and in close proximity to the historic Uzunkemer aqueduct. This unique location presents a context enriched with both cultural heritage and natural landscape values. The design approach is therefore shaped by a sensitivity to the spirit of the place, aiming to preserve the natural silhouette and topography while merging cultural continuity with contemporary urban living.

The site is organized into two distinct zones shaped by the topography. Zone 1, located on the lower elevation near Istanbul Street, integrates commercial and residential functions. Designed as a vibrant and permeable urban fabric, this zone enhances public accessibility, fosters social interaction, and creates an active interface with the city.

Zone 2, positioned on the upper elevation, is conceived as a quieter, more private residential area immersed in the natural landscape. Through a terraced settlement strategy, each residential unit benefits equally from sunlight, views, and natural ventilation, while maintaining privacy and spatial quality.

The guiding principle of the design is maximum harmony with minimum intervention. The existing green cover is preserved, and building masses are carefully integrated into the rhythm of the terrain. The Uzunkemer aqueduct serves not only as a visual reference but also as a cultural element shaping the project’s spatial configuration.

The overall layout is structured around a dual-plaza system: while the lower plaza hosts commercial and public activities, the upper zone offers semi-private open spaces serving the residential community. This dual system ensures horizontal permeability and strong vertical connections within the site.

Vehicular and pedestrian circulation is clearly separated, providing a safe and comfortable mobility network. The commercial vibrancy of the lower zone is reinforced by permeable pedestrian axes, while the upper residential area is characterized by pedestrian-oriented internal streets. The circulation strategy thus promotes a walkable, neighborhood-scale mobility system integrated with the wider urban context.

The UZUNKEMER Project embodies a design philosophy that is human-centered, environmentally conscious, and rooted in local identity. By preserving natural topography, sustaining green continuity, and prioritizing pedestrian-friendly networks and communal spaces, the project aspires to create more than just housing—it envisions a timeless urban focus that enhances the quality of life while fostering cultural and ecological continuity.
