Litus İstanbul​

 

In designing Litus Istanbul, our main intention was to create a calm yet powerful living atmosphere one that embraces nature while remaining in the heart of the city. Located in Altunizade, Üsküdar, where the historical texture of Istanbul meets contemporary urban life, the project was shaped through a horizontal architectural approach centered on human scale and daily experience.

In contrast to the dense urban fabric surrounding it, the project seeks a slower rhythm of life. Composed of seven low-rise blocks and 98 residences, the layout follows the existing topography, forming a series of inner courtyards and pedestrian-oriented paths. These spaces reinterpret the familiar sense of “neighborhood,” promoting social encounters while preserving privacy within each dwelling. Every residence was planned to capture natural light, air, and views, ensuring that the sense of openness continues seamlessly throughout the entire site.

The main inspiration behind the design emerged from the project’s name Litus, meaning “shore.” We envisioned the site as a threshold between the city’s energy and the tranquility of nature. This duality translated directly into our architectural language: horizontally layered masses, deep window reveals, generous terraces, and shaded semi-open spaces that balance light, shadow, and spatial depth throughout the day.

In material selection, we aimed for timeless simplicity and durability. Natural stone, textured wood, and soft neutral tones define a warm, tactile architectural expression that harmonizes with its environment. The façades follow a measured rhythm restrained yet refined, where detail and proportion take precedence over ornamentation.

For us, Litus Istanbul is not only a collection of well-designed buildings but a living environment. The integration of limited-scale commercial units, social courtyards, and landscaped pedestrian zones creates a balanced and peaceful urban atmosphere.

Ultimately, Litus Istanbul represents our pursuit of equilibrium-between nature and city, privacy and community, architecture and life itself. Every design decision was guided by this sense of balance, aiming to offer its residents a serene, contemporary, and enduring place to live.
