ÖZAKSU Bakırköy Residences
Özaksu Bakırköy emerges as a contemporary mixed-use development located in the heart of Istanbul’s Bakırköy district, adjacent to the historic Veliefendi Hippodrome. Responding to its vibrant urban context, the project combines residential, commercial, and hospitality functions within a cohesive architectural framework.
The masterplan organizes eight blocks around a central courtyard, creating a strong sense of community and spatial orientation. Three blocks are strategically positioned at the lower street level, establishing an active commercial hub that anchors the project to its urban surroundings. Above, these volumes transition into residential and hotel uses, with a sweeping horizontal canopy that both defines and distinguishes the commercial base from the living spaces above.
The site’s natural topography, gently ascending towards the northwest, is transformed into a dynamic circulation system. This gradient allows a seamless connection from the bustling street to the elevated residential courtyard, clearly separating the commercial plaza from the private domestic realm.
Architecturally, the commercial blocks adopt sharp triangular geometries, ensuring permeability and openness even in dense urban proximity. The residential blocks, by contrast, are carefully rotated on their axes to maximize views and daylight while minimizing visual obstruction. The façade strategy reflects this duality: the street-facing volumes embody a refined, modern clarity, while the residential blocks are vertically articulated with fragmented elements, introducing rhythm, depth, and vibrancy to the overall composition.
